Death To Humans Publishing is a new small press publisher which opened its doors to the public on March 1st and is now open to submissions. Run by Jackson Weir, this “micro-press” is focusing on “black humor, blasphemous, morbid, sick and morally bankrupt short stories that will make your grandma’s panties suck right up into her old wrinkly rectum.”
In October 2020, the press was founded on the purchase of the back catalogue of Patrick Kill stories which were quietly put back onto the market. It had been more than 3 years since any of Kill’s work was available, as the author put a self-imposed ban on selling his work through corporate/commercial channels.
13 Luckless Tales by Patrick Kill [4/13/21]

Editor Jackson Weir is focusing his release schedule around producing shorter works (short stories, novelettes) in the first year. I conducted a brief Q&A with Jackson about the official launch of D2HP.
I gotta ask about the press name ‘Death To Humans’…is it meant to be incendiary, tongue-in-cheek, so what’s the real meaning behind it?
(Laughs) The fiction can be incendiary, but the name came about when I was wanting to get into publishing and produce dark-humored science fiction. I thought about this mad little martian (like in the old Bugs Bunny cartoons) that lands on earth with a death ray-gun and says “Death To Humans!” The name just stuck. It seemed to fit in publishing shorter humorous dark fiction (again, with the short martian dude inspiration).
The press is really founded on an anti-mass-marketing campaign. Which hardcore horror, black humor and splatterpunk really is…if you write it, don’t expect it to sell widely. Especially in times like these…the whole world has become some nightmarish version of that future where there is a holier-than-thou moral posse on patrol…blacklisters, book-banners, first amendment executioners and cancel-culture vultures…the world’s a fuckin’ joke right now. Even Dr. Seuss books were pulled this past week, for the love of Satan! We need that little martian dude to come down here and let loose his ray gun!!!!!!!!
So Death To Humans is also a name that I felt was very anti-everything. I’d enjoy every time someone actually bought a book released by a publisher named Death To Humans. Like:
“Hey, Bob, did you get that new Death To Humans?”
“Fuck, yeah, I did, Bill, I’m a real Death To Humans Fan!”
“You know I support and promote Death To Humans!”
“Last week I walked into a Barnes & Noble and a worker asked me what I was looking for…I told him, ‘Death To Humans would be nice’ and he called security!”
Were you a fan of Patrick Kill before you published him?
Yes, totally! I had been reading his work for years, had a few physical books and when I went to purchase some on my ereader, they didn’t exist. Did some Googling and found the Cult of Kill site, read where he was no longer releasing his work to Amazon or any other major seller. So I contacted him and talked him into buying his backlist. For months he either ignored me or flat-out told me he wasn’t interested. After several back and forth emails, he kinda discovered we were both anti-capitalistic. I told him my idea of naming the press ‘Death To Humans’ and that got him on the phone. We talked, laughed about the idea of releasing his work to places like Amazon under a Death To Humans moniker and here we are!
So what’s next for Death To Humans?
Probably a virus, maybe an asteroid. Could even be Yellowstone! Oh…you mean my publishing company, don’t you?
We just opened up submissions to the public on March 1st. I do have a few straggler Patrick Kill releases coming out later this year, but the rest is focused on building the anti-brand (so to speak) with a stable of new authors willing to bend the norm and hopefully play a micro-part in slapping society across its collected face. Sometimes it takes extremes to move the dial back to where it’s needed.
Thanks to Jackson for his time and we hope he finds success with his new endeavor.
This is where I usually tell readers to go support the author or publisher, but this time I will do so with quite the trigger warning. We’ve received several review copies from Death To Humans and they are profoundly extreme and offensive to some readers.
If you like that sort of a thing, this may be to your liking. I will post the link to the latest review of a Death To Humans release, which our reviewer gave 2 stars and stated the following:
To be fair, Patrick Kill is also an IndieMuse recommended author and received high praise from some of our curators and a more positive review for his 3 Tall Tales collection (as reviewed by Richard Martin on 11/29/20).
With that being said, you were forewarned. The publisher is running a promotion on its IndieMuse page where 25 free Kindle editions are being given away immediately.
- Go to the publisher’s page
- Scroll down to the bottom where there is a bookcase. 25 books in this bookcase have free Kindle codes to instantly download Death To Humans titles (available to US customers only).
- Each code is good for only one Kindle ebook, so first-come/first-serve.
The question is: will you support Death To Humans?
